Part-Time Courses
General Information
How do I enrol?
It is possible to enrol on most of our courses by phone, by post or in person.
By Phone
Simply call us on 0117 931 2121 and enrol over the phone.
Enrolments will be dealt with in order of receipt, and places reserved on the courses provided the correct fee has been paid and vacancies exist. Unsuccessful applicants will be contacted and offered either an alternative class or a total refund of their fee. When you have chosen the course or courses you would like to do, look at the course entry in the index pages and:
-
Check whether you need to have an interview or informal discussion before you enrol.
-
Check whether you are entitled to any fee reduction (see Tuition Fees below).
-
Check what fee (if any) you have to pay.

throughout the summer and from 9:00 - 8:00pm Monday - Thursday, 2nd - 30th
September 2002.
Sponsored Students
If your employer or a sponsor is paying your fees, a letter of sponsorship
must be provided at the time of enrolment, stating that the company wishes
to be invoiced direct for the fees.
Refunds and Cancellations
Refunding of a course will normally only be made if the course is cancelled by the College. Full refunds will be made if a course is cancelled at or prior to its second meeting. Students in attendance when a course is cancelled at other times will receive proportionate refunds. Refunds are not available where a student leaves a course after the course has started.
Tuition Fees
The fees payable for each course are given with each course entry. Unless specifically stated to the contrary all tuition fees must be paid in full at the time of enrolment. Fees generally include everything except registration for certain professional bodies e.g. AAT: details of costs additional to the main fees are given in the course entry.
The College reserves the right to cancel classes which do not recruit
sufficient students to make them viable.
Full Fees
Full fees are shown as the first figure in each course entry. These apply to all students unless they wish to apply for a Reduced Fee.
Reduced Fees
Reduced fees are shown as the second figure in each course entry. These apply only to unsponsored students who on the date of enrolment are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
-
Disability Living Allowance.
-
Working Family Tax Credit (*see below).
-
Housing Benefit (inc. rent rebate).
-
Income Support.
-
Invalid Care Allowance.
-
Incapacity Benefit.
-
Severe Disablement Allowance.
-
Job Seekers Allowance (see below).
If you are the unwaged dependant of a person who is in receipt of one of the listed means tested benefits to the household i.e. Income Support or Working Family Tax Credit or Housing Benefit then you may also be eligible for reduced fees.
*Students in receipt of Working Family Tax Credit will only be eligible for fee remission, and therefore pay the lower rate fee, if the amount deducted from your Working Family Tax Credit is £72.20 or less. You must bring the whole award letter to prove that you are eligible for reduced fees.
To apply for a reduction in College Fees, please complete both sections of the form opposite. The information on this form is PRIVATE and CONFIDENTIAL.
Please note that Job Seekers Allowance reduction claimants must provide evidence they are in receipt of benefit - the signing on card is not sufficient to claim a reduction.
Other Financial Help
If you feel you would benefit from a course at Filton but find you do not qualify for a reduced fee there may be other sources of financial help available particularly if the course is likely to improve your job prospects. Please contact Student Services for further information and advice 0117 931 2121.
Please note: The fees you pay meet only part of the real costs of the course. If your course leads to a qualification, the college will receive extra Government funding for you while you continue to attend. If you are absent for four consecutive teaching weeks, Government funding rules require us to withdraw you and you will not be entitled to any refund of the fees you have paid. If you have been sick or have some other satisfactory explanation, you may be re-admitted to the course without further payment later in the same academic year at the discretion of the lecturer. Re-enrolment will be necessary.
Absence from Class
Naturally, absence will affect your ability to complete your qualification. Please contact your tutor whenever you have to miss a class. If, however, you feel our course is not right for you or you need some other help, please talk to your tutor/lecturer or contact the Guidance Service (through Rosheen Hucker in Students Services on 0117 931 2121 Ext 297) for a confidential discussion. We're here to help you succeed by one route or another.
The inclusion of a course in this prospectus is no guarantee that it will run. Fee levels and other information may change without notice, but every effort has been made to ensure that all details are correct at time of going to press.
The College reserves the right to cancel classes which do not recruit sufficient students to make them viable.
