Modern Apprenticeship Programme

Modern Apprenticeship Programme

What is a Modern Apprenticeship Programme?

It is a work based learning programme supporting young people through nationally recognised NVQ and Key Skills qualifications. It is FREE to young people aged between 16-24 years.

What levels are available?

There are two levels of Modern Apprenticeships:

Entry Requirements

It is not necessary for you to have been successful with your GCSE results. Enrolment to the programme occurs when you secure a job, usually with the help of the college recruitment team.

What occupational areas are available through Filton College?

How will I get a job?

We can offer you help with finding a suitable position in the occupational area of your choice.
If you wish to be considered for a particular vacancy, we will submit your details to the company and arrange for you to attend an interview.

Alternatively you may find your own job, but Filton College will still be able to provide the qualification, assuming that your employer is willing to commit to the programme. We will always be happy to speak to your employer, on your behalf, to explain the merits of the programme.

Who will pay me and how much will I get?

In all cases you would be employed by the company and paid directly by them. The jobs are usually permanent, although some employers may choose to review the position after a probationary period or achievement of the qualification.

Most employers pay between £80 - £150 per week, depending on the responsibilities of the job and experience of the candidate. In situations where the employer pays the minimum, we encourage them to pay travel expenses in addition to the salary.

How do I gain the qualification?

Your employer will be mainly responsible for training you to do the job and Filton College will assign a qualified assessor who will visit you regularly at your place of work. Your assessor will work with you and assess your competence to apply your skills and ‘underpinning knowledge’ within your job role across a range of different working situations. Throughout the duration of the programme, you will compile a portfolio of evidence to support your knowledge.

As it will not always be possible to gain all of your ‘underpinning knowledge’ from training supplied within the workplace, arrangements will be made for assessors to provide additional training and support. These will usually be once a month at the College.
